Sunnyside, WA (Monday, February 3, 2020) Astria Health’s Sherry Jivelekas, RN, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Clinical Director of Astria Sunnyside Hospital Cancer Center, was selected and will be presented the Employee Support of Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) Patriot Award, on February 28, 2020.
The ESGR program was established in 1972, and exists to protect and promote supportive work environments for service members in the United States Reserve and National Guard. The ESGR Patriot Award recognizes employers who support the Reserve and National Guard men and women during times of activation, training and deployments.
Lee Jackson, NP-C of the Astria Sunnyside Hospital’s Cancer Center team, is also a Medical Director Major in the Army Reserve. He submitted an application to consider Sherry as an option for the Patriot Award. Lee appreciates Astria Health and Sherry’s support when Lee has been requested to deploy. Lee Jackson joined the Army in 2001, directly after 9/11. Coming up soon, in March, 2020, he has been requested to again deploy for his 8th deployment in his 18-year Army career.
Sherry Jivelekas, Clinical Director, has served in this role at the Cancer Center since it was opened by Astria Health, in March 2016. She plays a key role overseeing the busy Center and is very supportive of the military. She makes every effort to coordinate around Lee’s schedule, while still maintaining excellent patient care. Sherry says, “I have never thought to not respect his duty to our country, as I am very appreciative of what our troops do to keep our country safe.”
Sherry is pleased to have Lee a part of the cancer care team. She shared how patients immediately connect with Lee and his Army experience because many of the patients Astria Health sees are themselves veterans. Their joint interest establishes immediate trust in Lee and the quality of treatment the center provides.
Sherry will be presented the ESGR Patriot Award on February 28, 11am at the Astria Sunnyside Hospital Cancer Center Lobby (1013 E. Edison Ave. Sunnyside).
