Spine Care

Persistent neck or back pain? You're not alone: Experts estimate that nearly 80 percent of U.S. men and women will be affected by back and neck pain at some point in their lives. And it can happen at home, at work and to just about anyone who sits too long, moves without proper body mechanics or is a bit out of shape.

Whether you're suffering with recent or chronic pain, Astria Health has your back. The independent, fellowship-trained neurosurgeons on the medical staff specialize in diagnosing and treating a wide range of spine-related conditions, including:

  • Arm pain
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Disc compression
  • Fractured vertebrae
  • Hand numbness
  • Herniated discs
  • Infections
  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Sacroiliac (SI) joint pain
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis
  • Spinal fractures
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Spinal tumors
  • Spondylolisthesis

Minimally Invasive Techniques to Help Speed Healing

Spine specialists at Astria Health almost always start with a non-surgical approach to care—from pain management to comprehensive rehabilitation. But when surgery is your best solution, they often use minimally invasive techniques for a wide range of procedures, including discectomy, laminectomy, spinal fusion, and vertebroplasty.

In August 2019, Astria Health neurosurgeons were the first to introduce TESSYS Endoscopic Spine Surgery by Joimax to Eastern Washington. The TESSYS 4K Endoscopic Spine Surgery System technology has been successfully used throughout Europe and Asia for many years and in other areas of the United States, including Seattle. There are many advantages to its use. Patient advantages include:

  • Reduced postoperative pain
  • No opioids needed because of less post-operative pain
  • Reduced likelihood of post-operative infection
  • Less blood loss
  • Faster recovery time
  • Minimal trauma to surrounding tissue; less scarring
  • Can be performed in an outpatient setting for greater patient convenience

When inpatient surgery is required, you can heal in your own private room on our dedicated wellness floor—reserved exclusively for spine and orthopedic patients. There, you'll receive personalized and attentive care from a team of nurses and physical and occupational therapists, plus the support of fellow patients on the road back to your active life.
